Advising various companies in the robotics/AI space, supporting activities including, market research, product development, technical feasibility, and fundraising.
Teradyne 2018-2022
President, Energid Group
• Following the acquisition of Energid by Teradyne I was President of the Energid group, then a member of the Universal Robots Senior Management Team to support integration of the Energid technology and team into Universal Robots.
Accomplishments:
Integrated Teradyne’s robotics engineering team into Energid to work on advanced product development for Universal Robots. This culminated in the introduction of the product ActiNav.
Worked with Universal Robots Senior Management Team on an integration strategy, leading to Energid’s Actin software being adopted by UR. Actin is now a core component of the UR stack and the underlying simulation framework for the online training simulation.
Spearheaded and managed technical working group focusing on AI/DL applications within the robotics sector, culminating in successful advanced technology demonstrations and the creation of a new fulltime AI/DL group within UR.
Introduced UR to the principles and methods behind product discovery espoused by Eric Ries in The Lean Startup and subsequent books. This led to the creation of URLabs, a UR group focused on rapid development and finding product/market fit.
Prepared and presented Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to the CEO of Teradyne.
Supported move to virtual office during COVID and provided recommendations based on Energid’s experience as a (primarily) virtual office company for several years. I wrote about our experience in this article.
Energid Technologies 2002-2018
Co-Founder/CEO
Successfully bootstrapped robotics software company, Energid Technologies. Energid is a known innovator in the space and four-time inductee into the RBR50, recognizing the “50 most innovative and transformative robotics companies” in the world. Energid is the developer of the commercial robotics software, Actin. The company was acquired by Teradyne in 2018.
Accomplishments:
Built highly skilled, distributed, team of roboticists and bizdev professionals.
Leveraged over $20M in non-dilutive US government grant funding to grow company and build IP portfolio/source-code.
Spearheaded commercial robotics initiatives in the industrial, medical, space, and energy sectors.
Developed go-to-market plan and commercial framework for advanced robotics software, Actin.
Built exemplary sales team and supported software license negotiations.
Created subsidiary, Robai, focused on consumer grade/educational robots.
Received and negotiated LOIs from multiple global technology companies’ intent on purchasing Energid.
Negotiated Purchase and Sale agreement with Teradyne, culminating in 2018 purchase that was highly profitable for Energid shareholders.
